Barnes Hazel E. Barnes A Philosopher Hazel E. Barnes American Existentialist and Sartre Scholar [1915- ] Barnes built her reputation as a Sartrean scholar and she translated Sartre's "Being and Nothingness" into English. Indeed, she has very good knowledge of the Sartrean system of philosophy and its impact on the rest of philosophy. Not to be forgotten is Barnes's own work and its impact on the world of philosophy. She studied existential philosophy and the aesthetic of ethics. Barnes also finished Sartre's work on "Being."
