    A Philosopher

    • Martin Buber

    Australian Jewish Philosopher

    [1878-1965]

Buber is well known for his work on religous philosophy. Specifically, he explained the contrast between relationships of mutuality and reciprocity with utilitarian or objective relationships.

Martin Buber was a Jewish philosopher and thelogian. Among other places, Buber taught in Vienna, Berlin, Zurich. More importantly, in Frankfurt, Germany, he taught comparative religion at Frankfurt (1923-1933) and that laid the basis for some of his work that would later bring him repute. In 1938, he fled germany because of the Nazi uprise, and became a professor of social philosophy in Jerusaliem. Here, he wrote I and Thou (Translated-1923), which would bring his main points on social and ethical problems to light.
