(Marchioness Ossoli
American Author and Philosopher
Although we cannot be sure that Fuller is the most influential female of the 20th century, we can be sure that her contrbutions to philosophy were great.
At the age of 6, Fuller could easily read Ovid, Virgil and Horace in Latin and could also read all the classic English authors like Shakespeare. This diverse and impressive educational background helped her profit from the tutelage of Ralph Waldo Emerson in 1935.
No doubt due to the influence of Emerson (and Kant as well), Fuller believes that the human mind has certain a priori principles, which it is obligated to follow. These principles are binding to man's condition.
Fuller's book Woman took these ideas and applied them to women.
For the rest of her life, Fuller had various teaching and journalism jobs throughout the country. In 1846, she married the Marchese d'Ossoli, Giovanni Angelo. During the Italian Revolution their entire family (including a son) fled to the US and their ship went down one hour outside of New York harbour resulting in the tragic death of them all.
