Lovelace Lovelace A Philosopher Augusta Ada King Lovelace English Writer and Mathemetician [1815-1852] As the daughter of Lord Byron, one would have expected Lovelace to be well educated and nothing could be closer to the truth. She was a writer and mathematician (she taught herself geometry and was trained in mathematics and astronomy), who gained her fame from translating and annotating Charles Babbage's article on his Analytical Engine. The computer programming language ADA was named in honor of her.
